The best way to make sure your home improvement project stays on-track and under-budget is to use a checklist for every step of the process. Check out the list we've provided below for everything you need.

Before Your Project

  1. Remove furniture from workspace.
  2. Empty closets and pantries if needed.
  3. Remove oven, fridge, and dishwasher if working in kitchen.
  4. Remove all items from countertops.
  5. Remove toilet if working in bathroom.
  6. Draw blinds or lift or remove window treatments if needed.
  7. If installing hardwood flooring, prepare an area for acclimation. Hardwood flooring needs to adjust to the humidity levels in your home before it can be installed.

during your project

  1. Plan to be home during the installation and communicate with the team as needed.
  2. Address baseboards and doors (your installers will know what to do about these.)
  3. Ask any questions while the team is onsite.

after your project

  1. Wait 24 hours before walking on your flooring.
  2. Wait 48 hours before returning furniture.
  3. Place felt pads on the legs of all furniture.
  4. Wait one week before placing rugs on your new flooring.
  5. Keep your flooring completely dry for at least one week.
